How the race works in 10 easy steps
- Six person teams run or walk 61.9 miles from Stanley to Ketchum. The scenery is stunning.
- Athletes complete 12 legs which average 5 miles per leg.
- Athletes complete their legs in rotation, so athlete 1 completes legs 1 & 7, athlete 2 completes legs 2 & 8, etc.
- Athletes run or walk on the right side of the road.
- Athletes hand off the wristwrap/baton at specific locations on the course called exchanges.
- One automobile per team is allowed on the course.
- Toilets are available at each exchange. Teams provide all other support (food, water, first aid) to their athletes.
- Teams finish in the park together. Plan to celebrate at the post-relay party. Stay and play for the weekend.
- Local teams are required to provide a volunteer to assist the relay organization on race day. Paying for your volunteer's meals and/or lodging will ensure they want to return to help next year.
- Think "That was fun, Must do again next year."
